CEBU, Philippines - Senate Majority Floor Leader Alan Peter Cayetano gave P100,000 to the Supreme Student Government of Cebu Normal University.
The amount will serve as seed capital for the training of students on how to become entrepreneur as they pursue their dreams in life.
“It is up to them on how to be creative in implementing the money I have given. But I wanted them to grow the money,†said Cayetano, who inducted the newly elected officials and representatives of SSG.
In May 2013 elections, Cayetano ran under the platform of PTK (Presyo, Trabaho, Kita) that aims to lower prices, create more job and increase wages.
The seed capital is part of his PTK where, in the case of CNU, the money can either be used for entrepreneurial endeavor or a loan as payment for tuition, which is payable for a reasonable period at a very low interest rate.
Cayetano said that this is one way of helping parents combat the notoriously high interest “5-6†mode of lending money.
Two weeks ago, the senator also gave P100,000 for the SSG of Cebu Technological University and faculty. The amount will be used as loan for student’s tuition payable at a low interest rate.
For Cebu, Cayetano already gave a total of P500,500 under his PTK program.
He also gave P200,000 to the Cebu City United Vendors Association last month and P150,000 for the employees cooperative of Woven Furniture in Liloan, Cebu.
“Ang perang ito ay hindi galing sa PDAF. Galing ito sa mga private donors. I want this program to work because I am also accountable sa mga donors,†the senator said.
Cayetano, who is already opened about his plan to run for president in the 2016 elections, said he will return to Cebu to check on the money.
Cayetano was voted number one senator in Cebu and second nationwide among the 33 senatorial candidates in the May 2013 elections. — (FREEMAN)
