DOLE to give cash aid to Lorega fire victims
CEBU, Philippines - After helping the victims of super typhoon Yolanda in Central and Eastern Visayas, the Department of Labor and Employment will also implement the Cash-for-Work Assistance Program to the fire victims of Barangay Lorega-San Miguel, Cebu City.
DOLE-7 Regional Director Ma. Gloria Tango said that fire victims aged 18 years old and above will qualify as beneficiaries of the program.
Tango said that the beneficiaries from more than 5,000 individual fire victims will be paid P 327 per day, the minimum wage set for workers in Central Visayas.
The director explained the said program of DOLE was designed to help recover the victims of calamities like typhoon, fire and other calamities.
She said the beneficiaries of DOLE’s program will be tasked to remove the debris of fire in the said barangay that would benefit fire victims because it will help pave the way for Cebu City government’s re-blocking process so that they could also rebuild their houses soon.
Aside from cash assistance, DOLE-7, will also give livelihood training as an alternative means of income of the fire victims within this month. (FREEMAN)
