One dead, one injured in accident

CEBU, Philippines - A man was killed while his companion was injured when the motorcycle they were riding crashed into jeepney at the highway of Barangay Talavera, Toledo City last Friday morning.

SPO4 Carmelito Hornales, desk officer of the Toledo City Police Station, identified the fatality as Mariano Monteroso, 52, a resident of barangay Arpili of the neighboring town of Balamban.

His companion, Cerilo Barcuma, was also hurt and was brought to the Balamban Hospital.

Hornales told The FREEMAN that Monteroso and Barcuma were on their way home to Balamban from Toledo City when the accident happened. Monteroso was driving the motorcycle when they hit the passenger jeepney on the other lane, which was coming from Balamban heading towards Toledo City.

The driver of the jeepney, Ildefonso Diosma, 33, of Barangay Matab-ang, Toledo City, alleged that he never saw the motorcycle coming and that it was already too late to avoid it.

According to Hornales, the impact threw Monteroso and Barcuma off the motorcycle and it was unfortunate that Monteroso landed on the concrete pavement head first.

Police is set to file tomorrow charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries against Diosma who surrendered right after the accident.  (FREEMAN)
