‘Illegal fishers’ fall in Daanbantayan

CEBU, Philippines - Five suspected illegal fishers were arrested Wednesday morning by the operatives of the Cebu Provincial Anti-illegal Fishing Task Force in Barangay Tapilon, Daanbantayan.

The suspects identified as Nestor Iloy, 44; Loloy Mantos, 45; Edgar Castro, 33; Junny Palles, 34; and Roland Manipis, 24, were caught in possession of cyanide.

Task force head Loy Anthony Madrigal said his team became suspicious of the five fishermen, prompting them to follow their fishing boat.

“Pagduol na namo, nagpakusog man nuon unya naay gilabay. Pagdakop na namo nila, among gibalikan unsa to’ng ilang gilabay. Cyanide man gyud,” Madrigal said.

The suspects as well as the confiscated evidence were turned over to Daanbantayan Police Station.— /FPL (FREEMAN)
