Truck hits motorcycle, kills driver in Compostela

CEBU, Philippines - A 33-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was riding was hit and dragged by a trailer truck Sunday night in Compostela.

Police identified the victim as Edmond Sarsalejo of Sitio San Antonio, Barangay San Vicente, Bogo City.

The truck driver was identified as Rolando Castro, 43, a resident of Dancar, Danao City.

Police investigation revealed that the victim was driving a Yamaha Crypton motorcycle (YV 9564) going south while the trailer truck (GWF 406) registered under Speedster Cargo Handlers was going north when the incident happened.

While reaching Barangay Magay, Compostela, the truck tried to overtake a vehicle.

Upon maneuvering, Castro occupied the opposite lane hitting Sarsalejo’s motorcycle head on.

The victim suffered a serious injury in his head due to strong impact and was brought to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Danao City but was declared dead on arrival.

Police arrested Castro who was brought to Compostela Police Station.  (FREEMAN)
