CH sets aside P270T for women’s month

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City government has set aside at least P270,000 for the Women’s Month Celebration, which started yesterday.

The amount will be taken from the P5,360,000 budget approved by the City Council for the priority programs and activities of the Cebu City Women’s and Family Affairs Commission (CCWFAC) this year.

CCWFAC recommended the amount after holding a meeting last January 30, wherein a total of P8,860,000 was arrived at as the cost of all its programs including those that need priority.

The members of the commission, together with the authors of the proposal, Councilors Gerardo Carillo and Lea Japson, agreed to give preference to at least five programs.

Aside from the Women’s Month Celebration, the programs include the Annual Women’s Summit, with a budget of P270,000; wellness program for City Hall employees and women in barangay, P220,000; City counterpart for 38 barangay Gender and Development (GAD) focals augmentation, P1.6 million; and additional monthly honorarium for 80 barangay GAD focals, P3 million.

Other activities are the ‘Search for Most Gender Responsive Local Government Units, P1 million; mass wedding support for unwed couples, P750,000; and Gender Sensitivity Program for barangay employees and officials, among others.

The budget is in accordance with the approved annual budget of the Cebu City as provided under Section 4 on special provisions of City Ordinance 2377 dated December 18, 2013, allocating the CCWFAC the amount of P8,860,000.

The Cebu City government lined up a number of activities for the women’s month celebration, which has a theme this year: “Juana, ang Tatag Mo ay Tatag Natin sa Pagbangon at Pagsulong.”

Among others, there will be a sports tour on March 5; Women’s Summit on 8; Search for Miss Gabay Giya Ayuda sa Babayeng Sugbuanon on 28; and Ginang Sugbuanon on 31. — (FREEMAN)
