Mayor Rama to seek NBI’s help to track down website hacker

CEBU, Philippines - After the website of the Cebu City government was hacked last Saturday evening, Mayor.

Mayor Michael Rama said he will seek for the help of the National Bureau of Investigation in hunting down the culprit.

Rama told reporters yesterday that the hacking was not just an ordinary issue as it could happen to websites of other government offices as well.

 â€œThe NBI may have the capability na in connecting computers internationally, worldwide, in terms of hacking,” he said.

The city government’s website, http://www.cebucity.gov.ph/, was hacked Saturday evening by someone identified as a “Portuguese hacker.” The site was recovered last Monday by the Management Information and Computer Services (MICS).

Conrado Ordesta III, MICS chief, said they will write first a letter to the NBI-7 before bringing the matter to the NBI in Manila, which has a cybercrime laboratory.

He said they will file a case against whoever is responsible.

Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella earlier said he will request the City Attorney’s Office to conduct an inquiry into the matter.

“Dili man gyud na in-ana ka protected.  Walay vital information (in the said website),” said public information officer Carlo Dugaduga.
