CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City police chief Supt. Resty Santos is willing to step down from his post if investigation will prove that his office or his men have been in cahoots with drug personalities in the city.
This came after Police Regional Office-7 Director Chief Supt. Danilo Constantino said he will order an investigation into reports that the National Bureau of Investigation has chosen not to work with the Talisay City Police Station in a recent buy-bust operation.
The NBI said two previous operations that were conducted in coordination with the Talisay Police Station reportedly turned out negative. The agency suspects that an insider had tipped off the subjects of the operations.
Constantino said he wants to find out if there are personnel in the station office that are protecting criminals.
In a telephone interview, Santos told The Freeman that the allegations and/or insinuations are unfair. He said he cannot recall of an instance when an NBI agent went to his office to coordinate regarding an operation.
He said those who alleged that his office might have something to do with the supposed botched NBI operations must prove the accusations.
“Nakuratan lang gani ko gahapon, katulo na kuno ni nya nasunog ang duha ka operation (I was surprised when I learned there has been a third operation and the previous two have been botched),†Santos said.
He said he welcomes the investigation if only to prove that his office is not involved in anything illegal.
“Mas maayo na para mahibaw-an kung kinsa ang nag-protect (That’s good so that we will know who is giving protection),†he said.
Santos clarified that any government is welcome to conduct operation in Talisay City even without coordinating with his office.
“At least mahurot ang mga badlungon (At least all the bad guys will be rounded up),†he said. — (FREEMAN)
