Lovers warned against indecent acts

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Police warns lovers not to do scandalous acts in public on Valentine’s Day; else, they would be arrested.

Chief Insp. Enrique Belciña, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO)-Police Community Relations chief, said that they would observe maximum tolerance on Valentine’s Day, but would not hesitate in handcuffing together any couple going overboard.

He said that while it is natural for lovers to express what they feel towards each other, they should not allow themselves to be carried away while in public.

“Atong protocol og wala lay eskandalo nga gibuhat di man siguro na ngil-ad (Our protocol is that if what couples do is not seen as scandalous, there is nothing wrong in that).  Common sense sa pulis, naa man gyud nay limitasyon (should guide the policeman, because there are always limitations to what couples can do in public),” Belciña said.

CCPO is deploying policemen all over the city this Friday to secure lovers and to prevent crimes from happening.

Belciña said that this year, the police would focus on crime prevention in areas like restaurants, hotels and motels.

He said that these areas would likely be targets of some unscrupulous individuals since lovers would usually come to those places.

Policemen would also be assigned at parks and at the South Road Properties.

He said the SRP police are tasked to maintain visibility and use blinkers while on patrol, as people usually flock to the area, to discourage criminal elements from preying on them.

At any given day, lovers can be seen at the SRP, sitting by the sea watching the beautiful sunset.

Belciña said that though they seldom get reports on lovers misbehaving during Valentine’s Day, the police are not taking any chances. /RHM (FREEMAN)
