CEBU, Philippines - An alleged gun-for-hire was killed while his companion was injured when they shot it out with elements of Provincial Intelligence Branch in Barangay Poblacion, Asturias town yesterday afternoon.
The suspects, identified as a certain Edgar and Jonathan Rubi, reportedly tried to resist arrest when the PIB elements were serving a warrant for their arrest for a murder case.
Suspects, who were sighted in Sitio Lolang, Barangay Looc Norte, refused to surrender and tried to elude arrest. A brief chase and a shootout ensued.
Sr. Insp. Armando Labora said the suspects, both residents of Danao City, fired at them but missed, prompting them to retaliate and hit Edgar in different parts of his body. Rubi was hit in the right leg.
Two other companions of the suspects escaped.
Rubi and Edgar were taken to the Balamban Provincial Hospital but Edgar was declared dead upon arrival while Rubi was later referred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Recovered from the two were two pieces of KG-9 pistol with several bullets and two pieces caliber .45 pistol with bullets. (FREEMAN)
