Gullas College of Medicine Building breaks ground

Vanessa Balbuena - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Freeman chairman Jose “Dodong” Gullas will lead today’s groundbreaking ceremony of the Don Vicente Gullas College of Medicine Building at the Gullas Medical Center in Banilad, Mandaue City.

The six-storey building is set to be completed after a year and two months.

Gullas, who planned the new building’s construction, said the undertaking invokes a mixture of happiness and sadness for him.

“I feel joy because we are yearning to progress; at the same time, I feel sentimental because the old building’s architect and engineer was my mother, Inday Pining,” he said.

The building is dedicated to his parents, Don Vicente Gullas and Inday Pining Rivera Gullas, he said.

A message from Dodong Gullas to be enclosed in a capstone and buried at the groundbreaking site partly read: “With all humility, it is the obsession, the dream and the desire of Dodong to continue in my humble way, the legacies of both Don Vicente and Inday Pining.

“Pray I will always for our Señor Sto. Niño’s blessings, San Pedro Calungsod’s assistance and help, and Mama Mary’s intercession, that in my journey in life, I will continue to harness every remaining breath, every remaining moment that I may have to pursue, to dream the dream and obsession of Don Vicente and Inday Pining.”

Under Gullas’ leadership, buildings have been constructed at the Main Campus on Colon Street, Cebu City, at the six satellite schools in the province of Cebu and in the Gullas Medical Center at Banilad, Mandaue City. –(FREEMAN)
