As of 8PM: Team Rama leads in BCLP elections

CEBU, Philippines - Sixteen councilmen allied with Team Rama were leading in last night’s elections of the Barangay Councilors League of the Philippines (BCLP)-Cebu City Chapter.

As of 8 p.m. last night, Kamputhaw Barangay councilman Raymond Garcia who was running for president, was leading more than twice the votes of current BCLP-Cebu City Chapter president Franklyn Ong (Kasambagan) of the Bando Osmeña Purok Kauswagan (BOPK).

Yesterday's election of officers and members of the board of directors (BOD) was held simultaneously with BCLP-CCC's first general assembly for 2014 at the White Gold House at the North Reclamation Area.

At least 526 out of the 559 barangay councilmen in Cebu City were present at the polls, but the Comelec counted only 525 ballots cast.

The election committee was composed of the Comelec headed by election officer Marchel Sarno and representatives of the Department of Education (DepeD) 7 and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) 7.

Leaders of both teams were present yesterday, but they were only made to stay at the second floor of White Gold House. The election was conducted at the third floor.

Spotted were Mayor Michael Rama and his allies, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella; Councilors Hans Abella, ex officio member Philip Zafra; and former city councilors Edu Rama, Edwin Jagmoc, and Rene Mercado.

BOPK stalwart Tomas Osmeña was also spotted with his allies, former vice mayor Joy Augustus Young, Rep. Raul Del Mar, councilors Ritchie Osmeña, Sisinio Andales, and Noel Wenceslao, and former city councilor Jun Pe.

In their respective speeches, Garcia said he will focus in giving out benefits to councilors.

"Concrete and tangible benefits," said Garcia, a lawyer.

Francisco, who also rendered a brief speech, committed to "perform beyond promises."  (FREEMAN)
