Truck driver in Tabogon accident to face charges

CEBU, Philippines - The Tabogon Police is set to file a criminal charge against Norman Monteron, the driver of the cargo truck that side swept another cargo truck resulting to the death of three persons and injured 37 others the other day in Ilihan, Tabogon.

PO2 Dario Sta. Teresa told The FREEMAN in a phone interview that they have prepared the affidavits of at least two complainants yesterday.

“Duha pa ang nakapirma, amo nang giandam ang affidavit…inquest para ugma (today),” Sta. Teresa said.

Monteron will be charged of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and multiple serious physical injuries, Sta. Teresa added.   

“Siya (Monteron) gyuy kasohan kay siya may hinungdan nganung natagak sa pang-pang ang usa ka cargo truck,” Sta. Teresa said.

The police officer said that other than the three reported casualties, they have yet to receive reports of additional casualties since yesterday afternoon.

Out of the 37 injured persons, Sta. Teresa said that six of them are on a critical condition and three of them had to be treated with oxygen.

The Tabogon Police is yet to verify the names of the six injured persons because they were brought to Cebu City for immediate medical attention.

The rest of the victims Sta. Teresa said were brought to Severo Verallo Memorial District Hospital in Bogo City.

While those who only suffered minor injuries were brought to a hospital in Bogo-Medellin Milling Company, Inc. (BOMEDCO) compound, Sta. Teresa added.

The victims were fetched one by one from their respective houses in Medellin town to a sugarcane plantation in Sitio San Antonio, Barangay Binabag, Bogo City when they figured an accident in Barangay Ilihan, Tabogon town in northern Cebu. (FREEMAN)
