Construction worker shot dead; man hit by stray bullet Friday

CEBU, Philippines -  A 22-year-old construction worker was shot to death while sitting in front of his aunt’s residence in Sitio Mahayahay 2, Barangay Calamba, Cebu City past 10 p.m. Friday.

The police identified the victim as Charlie Malipay, 22, single, and a resident of the said place.

Witnesses said Malipay was just sitting in front of the house of Belen Rafols when a lone gunman arrived and suddenly shot him several times using a gun of still unknown caliber.

Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section operatives later identified the suspect as Chelloner “Christian” Lumapas.

Malipay, who suffered gunshot wounds in the left shoulder and back died before reaching the Cebu City Medical Center.

The police said a bullet hit the right portion of the victim’s neck, exited on the other side, and then lodged on his right chest.

Lumapas was already gone when responding policemen arrived.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man was hit by a stray bullet while driving his multicab van in Barangay Anajao, Argao town in southern Cebu.

Initial police investigation showed Cord Blademir Chong was on his way to Barangay Colawin, Argao to hear mass when a bullet suddenly hit him inside his multicab.

He was brought to the Isidro C. Kintanar Memorial Hospital but was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for further treatment. (FREEMAN)
