CEBU, Philippines - A man died while another man was injured in separate shooting incidents in Argao town and in Cebu City.

The incident in Argao took place in Barangay Poblacion last Sunday night. The victim, Jimboy Sabio, 34, was hanging out with his friend when the suspect, Denis Ortes, 50, appeared suddenly and shot Sabio, hitting him on his lower abdomen.

PO2 Benjamin Geyroza of the Argao Police said Sabio still managed to run and go over a fence but Ortes shot him again just as he landed on the ground.

"Nakadagan pa ang biktima ug nikatkat sa usa ka fence human siya pusila sa suspect… Pag-ambak sa biktima sa fence gipusil pud siya utro sa suspect (The victim still managed to run and climb over a fence after she was shot the first time but the suspect shot him again when he landed on the other side)," Geyrozaga said.

Sabio was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead.

Police later captured Ortes and detained him temporarily at the Argao Police pending the filing of official charges in court.

Police are eyeing personal grudge as motive of the shooting.

Meanwhile, the following day in Cebu City, Jose Cleoford Daño, 45, a motorcycle-for-hire driver, was waiting for passengers in Barangay Quiot when the suspect, identified only as "Arning" appeared and shot him.

The incident happened around 2:45 am.

PO2 Lou Pagara of the homicide section of the Cebu City Police said the suspect approached the victim and asked for P2, but Daño did not give him any because he did not have any money.

The suspect reportedly walked away angrily only to return a few moments later to confront the victim. He then pulled out a gun and pulled the trigger, hitting Daño in the left thigh.

Daño managed to run to his house for cover as the suspect continued to shoot him three times.

"Sa unang buto, na-igo ang biktima apan nakadagan pa kini padung sa ilang balay unya gigukod pa jud sa suspect nga nagpabuto gihapon (The victim was hit by the first bullet and the suspect continued to shoot him as he was running toward his house)," Pagara said.

Arning fled right after and is now a subject of a manhunt.

Daño was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) for treatment. (FREEMAN)
