CEBU, Philippines - A man believed to be an escapee from Leyte was temporarily held in custody of Pilar Police Station in Camotes Island since Monday following verification of his identity.

Christopher Cabrena, of legal age, was bound from Ormoc City when he was allegedly seen suspicious by PO2 Wenceslao Dabran of Pilar Police Station due to abrasion around his wrists which was believed to be caused by a handcuff.

Both Dabran and Cabrena board the same pump boat from Ormoc City.

According to PO2 Adorberto Carba Jr., officer-in-charge of Pilar Police Station, he got a report from Dabran calling for backup concerning to an alleged escapee.

"Nakit-an ni PO2 Dabran nga nagluya og naay pangus sa kamot ang lalaki nga murag tungod sa posas." Carba said.

The police responded to the report and immediately went to the pier and met Dabran and Cabrena.

Sr. Insp. Bonifacio Lucerna, chief of police in Pilar town, still has to get the profiles and pictures of the escapees from Leyte to verify and check the identity of Cabrena.

Police received reports that Cabrena was allegedly jailed in Sogod, Southern Leyte but he escaped and then surrendered in Matalom Police Station in Leyte Province.

However, they also received report that Cabrena was allegedly attempted to be killed by unknown assailants in Matalom.

"Ang giingon kuno gipriso ug nilayas siya sa Sogod ug mi-surender sa Matalom Police Station apan gi-attempt daw kuno siya og salvage pero naka-ikyas siya ug mao to gikan sa Ormoc nisakay og lantsa padulong Pilar." Carba said.

Carba further said they still don't have any clear and concrete information about Cabrena since they cannot contact the local police offices in Leyte.

"Galisod sad mi og verify ug contact didto kay wala pay klaro ang linya sa komyunikasyon," said Carba. — Aron Apostol Rempohito, USJ-R Masscom Intern/GMR (FREEMAN)
