Real estate broker, 50, gunned down

May Miasco, JMO - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A real estate broker was gunned down just as he and his uncle was coming out of a bank in Barangay Banilad around 11 a.m. yesterday.

The victim, Edgar Cañete, 50, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body. He was declared dead on arrival at the Gullas Medical Center. His uncle, Rudy Gapito, 63, was hit on his left foot.

Initial investigation revealed that the victims were coming out of a bank along A.S. Fortuna Street when the suspect approached them and shot them several times.

The gunman escaped on board a motorcycle driven by a companion.

SPO4 Alex Dacua of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said Cañete received a warning through a text message prior to the shooting.

"Magbantay mo inig kuha sa kwarta sa RCBC...(Be careful after you get the money from RCBC)," part of the text message reads.

PO1 Reoful Adalim also of the homicide section said they have ruled out robbery as a motive because the money the victims got from the bank, P500,000, was not taken. He said it is possible that the shooting was job-related.  (FREEMAN)
