Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Two people died after they figured in a road accident in Barangay Pitalo, San Fernando town past 6 in the morning yesterday.

Police identified the fatalities as Jason Torino, 25, and his live-in partner Mary Jane Milan, 20, who were both from Barangay Dagatan in the town of Badian.

The victims were onboard a Honda Wave motorcycle, which Torino was driving, and was already on their way home when they rammed a minibus at the national highway of San Fernando, said PO3 Julius Caesar Parages of San Fernando Police.

Based on the investigation, Torino initially overtook a motorcycle and then an Isuzu Crosswind before he crashed a Chan Transit minibus with plate number GXT 109.

The strong impact of the collision had Torino slammed directly to the bus while Milan was thrown off from the motorcycle and was run over by the Isuzu Crosswind that they earlier took over.

The two died immediately due to severe injuries in the different parts of their bodies.

Parages said that the driver of the minibus, Raymond Baclahan, 38, surrendered to San Fernando Police while the car driver, Rodrigo Fernandez, 45, surrendered to the nearby Naga City Police.

Both drivers are held in police custody and will possibly face charges, said Parages. — (FREEMAN)
