Ched suspends classes in CV

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Commission on Higher Education (Ched)-7 yesterday announced the suspension of all classes not only in Cebu and Bohol but in Negros Oriental and Siquijor as well.

In an advisory, Dr. Amelia Biglete, Ched-7 director, said there are also no classes today for tertiary and graduate school students in other provinces, as the region, particularly Cebu and Bohol, continue to reel from the after-effects of last Tuesday's earthquake.

"For further suspension of classes, all students of colleges and universities are advised to wait for announcement from LGUs (local government units)," she said.

She advised all heads of colleges and universities "to have school buildings and classrooms immediately checked to ensure safety of students, faculty and staff."

"Please coordinate with LGUs office of the building official (OBO) for the necessary inspection," Biglete said.

She also said that once classes resume, schools should take precautionary measures.  She likewise instructed that make-up classes should be made for the three days of suspended classes this week.

No classes were held last Wednesday, or the day immediately after the earthquake, as schools race to have their buildings inspected for their structural integrity.

The suspension was extended to yesterday and today because tremors continue due to recurring aftershocks, which already reached 869 as of noon the other day. (FREEMAN)
