TF, Banat lead winners in 16th CAMMA

CEBU, Philippines - The Freeman bagged three out of five awards in the print category of the 16th Cebu Archdiocesan Mass Media Awards (CAMMA) held last night at the SM City Cebu Cinema 2.

The Freeman won the awards for Best Editorial Writing, Best in Column Writing through the Hints and Traces column of Rev. Fr. Roy Cimagala, and Best in Feature Writing by Archie Modequillo.

Sister publication Banat News also won three major awards in the Cebuano Print category, namely Best in Feature Writing through the article entitled “Ang Bugsay” by Eleanor Valeros, Best in Investigative Reporting through the article entitled “Gubat batok sa dengue gilusad sa Minglanilla” by Brenda Batuto, as well as the San Pedro Calungsod Special Reporting Citation.

The CAMMA is held every two years to recognize local media practitioners from across all media platforms. It is a brainchild of Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal and was launched in 1992.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, Commission on Social Communications chairman Msgr. Trinidad Silva, Jr., and representatives from different lay organizations handed the awards to the respective winners.

This year’s CAMMA carried the theme, Social Networks Portals of Truth and Faith: New Spaces for Evangelization.

Palma, in a speech, reminded the people to use social media in a proper and responsible way.

The other winners were: Website category - Personal Website (cebucentral.com), Corporate Website (Efficascent oil International Pharmaceuticals, Inc), Institutional Website (Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc).

Campaigns and Grey Cebu won all the advertising category awards such as Billboard Advertising (“Power of choice”), Print Advertising (“Lig-on nga Baroganan), TV Advertising (“Bus”), Radio Advertising (“Anti-korapsyon”).

The Radio Category winners were: DYHP for Best in Radio Program (Unang Radyo Unang Balita), Radio Talk Show (Dream ko, Kalambuan ko), Best in Development Communication Program (RMN Serbisyo Publiko), Best in Radio Education Program (Ang Lungsod ug ang Balaod), and Best in Radio Drama (Pirasong Papel); DYRF for Best in Public Affairs Program (Dear Attorney); DYSS for Best Radio Commentary Program (Saksi “Bobby Nalzaro on Board).

The Television Category winners were: ABS-CBN for TV Public Service Announcements (Oplan Red Plate, Paglaum Human sa Linog and Tumong sa kinabuhi: Beato Pedro Calungsod), Best in TV Talk Show (Maayong Buntag Kapamilya) and Best TV News Program (TV Patrol Central Visayas); TV 5 won the Best TV Special Report (Student si Mama and Mobile Education).

The Cebuano Print Category winners were: Sunstar Superbalita for Best in Column Writing, “Tsinelas” by Ernesto Lariosa, Best in Editorial Writing and Best in Editorial Cartooning (Pagdisiplina maoy kinahanglan by Ariel Itumay).

The other English Print Category winners were: Cebu Daily News for Best in Editorial Cartooning and Sun.Star Cebu for Best Special/Investigative Reporting entitled Warm World: Perils and Challenges.

University of San Jose Recoletos also won the first ever Short film Competition with their entry entitled “Rosario”. — /QSB (FREEMAN)
