Body found in trash bag in Brgy Tabunan

Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The decomposing body of a man was found inside a garbage bag in the mountain barangay of Tabunan, Cebu  City, last Friday morning.

As of last night, the fatality was still unidentified and is now in a funeral home waiting for possible identification by claimants.

A certain Jepril Gabito, 28, discovered the body around 7 a.m. last Friday at the bottom of a ten-meter cliff.

Gabito told police that she was tending to her cattle when she smelled a foul odor and followed it. She discovered that the smell came from a garbage bag which was surrounded by a swarm of flies.

She went near the bag and opened it only to discover the face of a man whose body was already decomposing.

She immediately informed the neighbors who then called the police for assistance.

PO1 Michael Angelo Singson of the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section said the body may have been dumped there three to four days before it was discovered.

Singson said they took the body to Surelife Funeral Homes for autopsy since they could not yet determine if he had any injuries, considering that the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition.

The victim was found curled inside the garbage bag which was sealed with packaging tape.

Police theorized that the victim was killed by someone who had a strong personal grudge against him, considering the manner in which he was disposed.

Residents reportedly did not recognize the victim also, leading police to believe he was killed somewhere else and just dumped in the mountain barangay. — (FREEMAN)
