Shootings kill 1, injure 2 others

CEBU, Philippines - One person died and two others were injured, including a 12-year-old boy, in separate shooting incidents in Carcar City and the towns of Argao and Asturias, respectively.

Jombing Paraz, 12, of sitio Nangka, Perrelos Carcar City was injured in his right leg after he was hit by a stray bullet while walking along the road last Sunday evening.

He was rushed to Carcar City District Hospital where he is now confined. The police are still investigating to identify the culprit.

In another incident, a 52-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot in the stomach by a barangay tanod in Binlod, Argao last Monday dawn.

Doloroso Cambarijan of sitio Canohoy, Barangay Bulasa, was attending a vigil when the suspect, Jonathan Orbita, 36, a barangay tanod of Binlod shot him at 4 a.m.

Police Officer 3 Bernie Lao, desk officer, said that Cambarijan was watching an illegal gambling (hantak) when the suspect, armed with an unknown caliber suddenly appeared and shot the victim.

A hot pursuit operation was conducted but the suspect was nowhere to be found.

Lao said that Cambarijan and Orbita have long standing personal for the past 10 years now.

 "Kontra na gyud ni sila kay napusilan man pud ning suspek kaniadto sa biktima unya karon lang possible nakakita ug higayun nga makabawos (They have been enemies long time ago because the suspect was also shot by the victim before)," he said.

The suspect allegedly did not file a case when he got shot before, but this time, the family of Cambarijan said, they will file a complaint for frustrated murder case against Orbita.

In Asturias, a 62-year-old widow died of a gunshot wound in the head after an unidentified person shot her Monday morning in Barangay Tag-amakan.

Julia Baliguat was reportedly cultivating her farm when the gunman appeared and shot her twice in the head. Baliguat's relative, Berto Bughaw, was invited by the police for questioning.

The police received information that Bughaw and the Baliguat families have misunderstanding for the past years. – (FREEMAN)
