Cleanup yields tons of trash

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City clearing team collected tons of garbage from the shorelines of Barangay Mambaling during a coastal cleanup operation yesterday.

Raquel Arce, head of the Prevention Restoration Order and Beautification Enhancement (Probe), said her personnel also destroyed two communal toilets constructed at the shorelines that were used for business.

The clearing personnel, however, were forced to suspend their coastal cleanup because of the high tide at 10 a.m. but Arce said they will continue with the operations today.

She said the clearing team used a back hoe to make it easy for them to gather the thick pile of garbage.

“Gahi na g’yud kaayo ang mga basura nga halos dili na gani madutlan kon imong barahon,” said Arce.

Arce said she will coordinate with the Department of Public Services (DPS) for garbage trucks to regularly collect trash from residents in coastal areas of Mambaling and Duljo-Fatima to discourage them from throwing their wastes into the shores.

“Amo na sila nga himoan pirmi og meeting aron pasabton nga dunay balaud nga nagdili sa paglabay sa ilang mga sagbot ngadto sa dagat,” said Arce. – (FREEMAN)
