Rama wants more police precinct

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Mayor Michael Rama wants a police detachment at the Fuente Osmeña to ensure quick response to any peace and order problem in the area.

The mayor is planning to utilize the old building which station 2 used to occupy along the rotunda. Rama said he plans to discuss it with Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III because the lot is owned by the provincial government.

The station 2 has moved to its new building built by Chong Hua Hospital through the adopt a police station program of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The new building is located across the Police Regional Office-7 headquarters at the corner RR Landon Street and Osmeña Boulevard.

Since its transfer, the old police station building has been abandoned.

Aside from the detachment, the mayor also wants to ask Davide to allow the use of another Capitol property near the Lahug Elementary School for the construction of another police station.

Rama said, the new police station will be built under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) program between the city and the CCCI.

Rama said once the construction of the Lahug Police Station will be realized, its personnel can immediately respond to the concerns of the neighboring barangays like Busay, Apas, Luz or other barangay that will become part of its territorial jurisdiction.

At present, Lahug belongs to the jurisdiction of Mabolo Police Station that also covers several mountain barangays including Talamban and at least 15 others. FPL (FREEMAN)
