CEBU, Philippines - Supervising agent Atty. Renan Oliva of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) - 7 summoned John Niño Pogoy, the victim of the stone-hitting incident at Peleaz St. Barangay Kamagayan involving Cebu Councilor Gerry Carillo, but he was faced by the victim’s father instead.
When Oliva received information yesterday that the victim was given a release clearance by his attending doctor, NBI – 7 sent John Niño a subpoena.
But it was SPO4 Samuel Pogoy, the father of the victim, who faced the NBI. He explained that John Niño was still in the hospital recuperating in a private room and waiting for cash for his discharge. Oliva explained to the father that they want to further investigate by interviewing the victim himself.
“We want to hear from him unsa gyud ang nahitabo,†Oliva told the father.
Oliva also is also asking for the affidavits of the three witnesses who allegedly saw the councilor hit John that night, plus the testimonies of the responding officers.
“Bisa’g asa mi maabot aning imbestigasyon, amo ni barogan regardless kon kinsa na ang kasohan. We are impartial,†Oliva added.
The father assured Oliva that he would get the testimonies and bring his son to the NBI as soon as he is discharged from the hospital.
John Niño is now already able to speak and stand but would not tell his parents who the culprit was.
Pogoy also disclosed that Carillo offered to defray the hospital expenses of the child. The professional fee alone of the doctors in the surgery amounted to 90,000. The family accepted the assistance when the first bill of the hospital was released.
As to whether they will press charges against the councilor, Pogoy will still consult with his family. However, Oliva explained that even if there will be no complaint from the victim, the NBI will still file the case against whoever was responsible.
Carillo was accused of hitting 16-year-old John Niño Pogoy with a rock during a commotion two weeks ago. Carillo denied the allegation saying that he only pacified the two groups of young men.
The victim underwent a surgical operation in the head at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Carillo specifically asked for the NBI to take over the case and exhaust all means to get the correct version of the incident. — (FREEMAN)
