Cebuana, 2 kids in Asiana crash

AJ de la Torre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that a Cebuana and her two kids were on board the ill-fated Asiana Airlines that crashed in San Francisco, California.

All three have survived, according to the family of Maricel Anino-Knaus in an ABS-CBN news report.

Anino-Knaus just came from Cebu for a one-month vacation and were on their way home to Fort Collins, Colorado with her sons, 7-year-old George and 5-year-old Gabriel. Her husband Carl was also with them in Cebu but he went home a week earlier.

Anino-Knaus’ family told ABS-CBN that Carl informed them his family had bruises and were traumatized by the incident.

Maricel has been living in the USA for more than 10 years now, said her family.

Apart from Knaus and her children, the DFA confirmed that an elderly Filipino couple, Ruben and Belen Vallero, also survived the crash.

The ill-fated Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 came from Seoul, Korea and crashed in San Francisco international airport last Saturday, immediately killing two Chinese nationals and seriously injuring 49 people.

It had 291 passengers on board with 16 crew members.

Investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the crash but initial reports said the airplane should have been flying 158 miles per hour but instead was only flying at 119. — /JPM (FREEMAN)
