2 commit suicide in one day

CEBU, Philippines - Two men, including a high school student, were separately found dead in Cebu City yesterday morning with ropes tied around their neck.

Jay Cyril Yong, 18, was found hanging from the ceiling of their comfort room in Barangay Kinasang-an Pardo at 5 a.m. yesterday. In Barangay Pit-os, Charlie Ollanas, 23, was also found dead hanging dead on a tree.

Yong's body was found by his father Cerilo when the latter went inside the CR to take a bath. Cerilo and the other members of the family tried to revive Yong but failed.

A suicide note pasted on the wall of the comfort room was found by the police. The note, however, did not clearly state the reason why Yong took his life.

"Mama and papa pasayloa ko na nabuhat ni nako ninyo kay dako akong problema gud. Para di na ko mag-antos aning problemaha, para di na ko mag-hunahuna ani, pasayloa lang gyud ko ninyo. Ug naa pa'y usa ka problema, di na lang nako isulti para mawagtang na ning tanan (Please forgive me for doing this because I have a big problem. I don't want to endure and think about it anymore. Please forgive me. There is another problem but I don't want to tell it anymore to erase everything)," an excerpt of the note reads.

PO1 Reoful Adalim of the Homicide Section said that they receive information that Yong was heartbroken after learning that his girlfriend is having another boyfriend.

Yong's girlfriend, whose name was written in the suicide note, reportedly denied being the reason why her boyfriend committed suicide.

Meanwhile, his being scolded most of the time by his grandmother was believed to have prompted Ollanas to end his life.

Judita Ruiz was checking on her vegetable and fruit farm yesterday morning when she found Ollanas hanging from the Bugtai tree.

"Emotional kuno kaayo 'to tawhana. Unya sige daw kasab-an sa iyang lola, pirme daw siya initan, mao'y gidudahan hinungdan sa paghikog (He was said to be very emotional because he was always scolded by his grandmother)," Adalim said.

Homicide investigators said there were no indications of foul play in both cases. Both families also declined to submit the bodies to autopsy. — (FREEMAN)
