Sibonga Community College posts 100% passing rate in LET

CEBU, Philippines - The Sibonga Community College posted a 100-percent passing percentage in this year’s licensure examination for teachers administered by the Professional Regulations Commission in March.

Sibonga Mayor Lionel Bacaltos said that all four board takers for the elementary and five from secondary level have passed the exams.

They are Meriam Balbotin, Jennifer Banlasan, Anna Bella Laude, and Leilani Temeña for elementary. Jolly Ann Kilantang, Maria Lourdes Rizada, Crisel Milagrosa, Bevelinda Reytomas, and Lina Soco for the secondary.

Bacaltos said the community college will continue to strive for a better performance rating in the coming licensure examinations.

“The Sibonga Community College was crafted into what it is now - a destiny of educational oasis to students in search for life-living knowledge,” said former first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas.

It was Gullas who established the community college in 2008.

With an average tuition fee of P2,900 per semester, Bacaltos said even those in the low-income class can enroll in the courses that the community college is offering.

The mayor said courses like elementary and high school education, Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, and a two-year Information Technology courses are being offered.

Bacaltos explained that his point in putting up a college in his town, which is 50.7 kilometers south of Cebu City, is to help his young constituents especially those in the mountain barangays get a college education that is much cheaper than getting it from a private school.

Bacaltos said that in their town where farming is the main livelihood, only about 30 percent of the graduates from high school can go to college. (FREEMAN)
