Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 32-year-old man shot his live-in partner dead before killing himself yesterday morning in sitio Canapnapan, Barangay Campo 8, Toledo City.

Jesus Eredias shot Sheila Paraiso, 18, in the chest after the latter already wanted to break up with him.

Police Officer 3 Alfredo Barquin, investigator, said that the two were heard by their neighbors quarrelling each other at about 9:00 a.m. before shots were fired.

Barquin said that Paraiso already wanted to break up with Eredias but the latter did not want to let go of her.

“Gusto na mobuwag ang babaye unya dili musugot ang laki kung magbuwag sila patyon kuno niya (The girl wanted a breakup but the man did not agree and threatened to kill her if she leaves),” Barquin said in a phone interview.

There was no third party involved, but the police believe that the woman wanted to be free because Eredias was said to be very possessive.

The police found a suicide note and an improvised shotgun with two spent ammunitions at the crime scene.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy died after a barangay tanod shot him last Saturday evening in Purok 7, Barangay Anopog, Pinamungajan.

Jaddy Owakan was playing with his friends at the basketball court when barangay tanod Lolito Sebial, 47, arrived and fired his .38 revolver indiscriminately, hitting the boy in the neck.

Sebial surrendered to his barangay captain who turned him over to the police station.

SPO1 Peter A. Cuanso Jr., responding officer, said that Owakan and Sebial attended a wedding reception at their neighbor when the incident happened.

Cuanso said they have yet to determine whether Sebial was under the influence of liquor at that time.

The police are now preparing criminal complaints for homicide in relation to RA 7610 against Sebial.— (FREEMAN)
