But ITCZ brings rains tropical depression spares Cebu

Marigold Lebumfacil - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Students in private schools will have to face a wet opening of classes tomorrow as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasts a rainy Monday.

Ella Comahig, PAGASA weather observer 4, said rains will be expected with tropical depression “Dante”.

But Comahig clarified that as of now, Cebu is not yet part of the areas covered by Dante. The rains being experienced in the province is brought only by the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

With this, Comalig advised all the children and students going to school to bring umbrellas and other rain protection gears.

However, PAGASA clarified that the tropical depression will not reach the Cebu area.

“Ting-habagat naman ta, so sa Luzon ni mo-hit. Hinay ra man nuon ni, with the 45 kilometers per hour (kph), maong dili ta affected, uwan-uwan ra gyud ang atong masinati,” Comalig said. (It will hit Luzon and not Cebu.)

Meanwhile, the “colorum” school transport operators in the private schools are warned not be complacent despite the rainy weather because the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) will still pursue with their random inspections.

LTFRB-7 Regional Director Ahmed Cuizon said that they will be doing the random operation even if it rains.

“We will still pursue with the operation whether it rains or it shines, unless naa gyuy obvious nga typhoon,” Cuizon said.

“If ordinary lang nga rain, then we will do the inspection. Colorum bus operators must not be complacent of the weather as we will be going to do a surprise operation,” Cuizon added. —  (FREEMAN)
