Sanchez: I’m willing to work with Gwen

CEBU, Philippines - After seeing no problem working with her uncle despite their political differences, newly-elected Provincial Board Member Grecilda Sanchez-Zaballero also expressed willingness to work with congresswoman-elect Gwendolyn Garcia for the good of the third district of Cebu Province.

Zaballero believes that his “Tito Alex”, referring to reelected PB Member Alex Binghay, is somebody who is committed to work for the district.

Having been given equal mandate, Zaballero said she doesn’t see any reason why they cannot work together.

“Kung ang kongresista nga gipili sa tersiro distrito would not think that way, kung para sa distrito ug gikinahanglan we can work together, if there’s any need to do so, I would be very much willing to toe the line,” Zaballero said.

“We don’t have to like each other but we can at least work together for the common good, she doesn’t have to like me or don’t have to like her, we just have to hopefully get along somewhere, somehow,” Zaballero added.

Zaballero ran under the Liberal Party against Binghay of the One Cebu Party of the Garcias.

She unseated Binghay’s son-in-law, outgoing PB Member Caesar Ian Geronimo Zambo.

Zaballero is the daughter of the late vice governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr., a cousin of Binghay.

She filed a tax evasion complaint against Binghay and Zambo three days before the last May 13 elections and also against outgoing third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia, the defeated gubernatorial candidate of One Cebu.

Zaballero said she will let the Bureau of Internal Revenue pursue its investigation of the cases she filed.

“I think that was on personal note, nothing to do with the district,” Zaballero said.

She, however, did not disclose any update to the case but instead asked the media to get update from BIR.

Zaballero in her complaint said both Zambo and Binghay had “massive real and personal property acquisition” during their terms as board members.

She also alleged that Garcia’s real properties showed a marked increase from P2 million in 2007 to P11.9 million the following year and his personal properties initially valued at P10.4 million in 2007 rose to P14.5 million in 2008.   (FREEMAN)
