CEBU, Philippines - A bullet intended for a suspected thief ended a two-year-old boy’s life in Carmen town last Sunday.
Pedro Roble Durano, 32, would have wanted to kill Jemar Sevillano when he fired his caliber .45 pistol at 9:30 am in Phase II, Relocation Site, Barangay Baring. However, Durano missed his target and hit Tevence June Maningo Salabao in the forehead instead.
Salabao was rushed to the Danao Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Police investigator, SPO3 Renerio Masucol, said that Durano suspected Sevillano as the one responsible in stealing the fighting cocks of his brother and of their neighbors.
Masucol said the suspect saw Sevillano last Sunday and shot him twice but missed. The boy who was playing outside their house was instead hit. Durano escaped after the incident but later surrendered at the police station.
Durano told the police that he hid in a cave before he decided to surrender and face possible charges.
The police failed to recover the death weapon which the suspect claimed to have left inside the cave. (FREEMAN)
