PWC to provide help to Cordova

AJ de la Torre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Women’s Commission (PWC) hopes to curb the proliferation of cyberpornography in Cordova by providing livelihood to the residents.

PWC chairperson, acting Gov. Agnes Magpale, visited Barangay Ibabao yesterday  to meet with the residents and assess how the commission can provide alternative livelihood.

Barangay Ibabao is the place where a couple was arrested last Sunday for allegedly operating a cybersex den using minors including the couple’s own daughter.

Another couple who lived a few meters from the house raided last Sunday was arrested last year by the National Bureau of Investigation also for operating a cybersex den.

Magpale admitted they cannot provide livelihood that can match the income they are getting from their cyperporn den operation but assured they will do their  best to see what they can offer.

PWC assed a resolution yesterday supporting the initiatives of the National Bureau of Investigation in apprehending cyberpornography operators.

In it operation last Sunday, three minors, including the daughter of the suspects, were rescued.

Magpale said PWC is willing to provide psychological interaction with the victims if the NBI would ask for their help.

The arrested woman admitted that the minors were ordered to perform lewd acts in front of the computer where foreigner-clients watched.

Magpale said yesterday that with PWC’s partnership with the Homeland Security of the United States of America, they help the NBI in identifying cyberpornography dens in Cebu.

The Homeland Security have been providing assistance to the commission with its state-of-the-art facilities.

She said the department now has more modern gadgets that can help them and the NBI in their raids and surveillance. —(FREEMAN)
