Rama orders road improvement at old JY wet market in Barangay Lahug

Rene U. Borromeo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has ordered to improve the road adjacent to a hotel in Barangay Lahug which used to be a wet market after the vendors have been relocated to the newly constructed three-storey market building in the barangay.

Rama has given instruction to the department heads to start improving the road as well as the drainage system. Rama said they have already awarded the contract for the drainage project.

The mayor likewise directed the members of the Prevention Restoration Order Beautification and Enhancement (PROBE) headed by Raquel Arce to clear the area from any illegal structures.

The city government will no longer allow vendors in the area even if some of them cannot be accommodated in the new market building located 100 meters away from the old wet market.

“Maayo na lang ni bahala na og gagmay'g pwesto kay kon mag-uwan dili na man ta mabasa,” one of the vendors told The Freeman.  (FREEMAN)
