CEBU, Philippines - Police arrested two men who were both armed with high-powered guns in Barangay San Roque, Cebu City last Friday night.

Suspects Marvin Tuburan, 25, and Jordan Tortor, 22, were arrested after police received reports that the two were brandishing their firearms.

Elements of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) responded to the area where the two were reportedly sighted. Police confiscated two caliber 38 revolvers with five ammunitions from each suspect.

The suspects were taken to the Waterfront Police Station where they are detained. They will face complaint for illegal possession of firearms and violation of the Comelec gun ban.

Waterfront Police Station Chief Wildemar Tiu said that Tuburan and Tortor were reported by their neighbors in Sitio Palma Barangay San Roque on 11 p.m. Friday.

The suspects claimed though that their firearm was just for self defense.

â€œWe will check their backgrounds for us to determine further why these suspects have firearms,” said Tiu, suspecting that the two may be involved in illegal activities.

Tiu said that adding the two recently confiscated guns, their station alone has confiscated more than 10 firearms since the election gun ban was implemented.

Tiu stressed that even after the gun ban, they will continue to intensify the campaign against loose firearms, and one is by conducting checkpoints.

Meanwhile, three men were also arrested for bringing several packs of suspected shabu in Barangay Apo, Argao town at past 10 pm last Friday.

Arrested were Marlou Antiga, 19; his relatives Constancio Antiga, 30; and Angelino Antiga, 27, all resident s of Barangay Cantularoy, Sibonga town.

Personnel of the Regional Public Safety Battalion were conducting a checkpoint when they apprehended the suspects.

The suspects yielded 13 small sachets of shabu and 15 rolled aluminum foils.

Charges for violation of Section 11 and 12 of the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the suspects who are now detained at the RPSB detention cell.  (FREEMAN)
