Joavan may be threat during polls

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Patrocinio Comendador claimed that Joavan Fernandez, the controversial adopted son of Mayor Socrates Fernandez, could be a threat during the elections, this after Fernandez was seen allegedly armed with a gun last Monday.

Comendador said he will direct Supt. Elmer Lim, Talisay City police chief, to neutralize Fernandez so he would not be a threat to the residents in Talisay City.

When asked what he meant by neutralized, Comendador refused to explain.

“I know there are 1,001 ways to neutralize a person and he could be a threat since he was armed,” Comendador said in a phone interview.

For his part, Lim said he is waiting for further directives from Comendador as he has not yet received any.

“So far wala man ko kadawat sa directive ni PD basin ugma (today) or sunod adlaw,” he said.

Florita Rosas, 54, of Barangay Lagtang, reportedly went to the police station last Monday afternoon and informed the police that Fernandez had a gun tucked into his pants while he was putting up campaign posters in the area.

Rosas said she tried to tell Fernandez not to put up posters near her house, which probably irritated Fernandez who then went to his car parked just nearby and came back with a gun.

She added that Fernandez continued setting up posters.

Comendador further said that he could not allow any election turmoil in Talisay City just because of Joavan Fernandez.   (FREEMAN)
