Man shot dead in Barangay Luz

Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A man was shot dead yesterday dawn by two unidentified gunmen on board a taxicab at the Archbishop Reyes Avenue in Barangay Luz.

The victim who was only known to his neighbors as “Badang” was walking along the road when two persons alighted from Rosario Taxi and started shooting him without any provocation.

After shooting “Badang” the assailants boarded the waiting taxicab and sped off towards the downtown area. Paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation tried to assist the victim but he was already dead.

Police investigators found two slugs, three empty shells, and three unspent ammunitions of caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene. The police also recovered a cellular phone, a wallet containing P200 bills, assorted documents, and an expired driver’s license bearing the name of Rodrigo Cancamo Cansancio from the victim.

It was not immediately known by the police whether the driver’s license belongs to the victim.

SPO1 Ruth Violango of the Homicide Section said they are waiting for the victim’s relative to claim the body and confirm if he really is Cansancio.

Violango said they are also trying to determine the motive behind the killing. According to Violango, they are having difficulty looking for witnesses because nobody is willing to cooperate.

Violango said they are also trying to retrieve information about a certain Badang who was tagged in the grenade-throwing incident in Barangay Carreta two years ago. — (FREEMAN)
