Jogger stabbed dead

CEBU, Philippines - A woman died after she was repeatedly stabbed by a man said to be mentally disturbed while she was jogging in Barangay Pardo yesterday morning.

Police identified the victim as Mary Jane Aguilos, said to be in her 40s, who worked as a private tutor; while the suspect was a certain Reagan Nacorda, 23.

SPO4 Rogelio Cañete of Punta Princesa Police Station said Nacorda told them he was walking along the road with a cousin he only identified as Marichu when they met Aguilos, who was jogging past 7 a.m. yesterday.

Nacorda allegedly saw Aguilos look intently at his cousin, which he did not like.

Nacorda reportedly followed the victim and stabbed her repeatedly with a sharp object that he brought with him.

The victim fell to the ground but the suspect reportedly continued to stab her until she stopped moving.  He then left the crime scene.

The victim was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center but died a few hours later, said Cañete.

Cañete said they conducted a hot pursuit operation after receiving a report about the incident and eventually arrested the suspect whom they found hiding in his house in Sitio Colis.

The policeman said the victim often suffers from nervous breakdowns and in fact was taken to a psychiatric ward a month ago.

The suspect is now detained at the Punta Princesa Police Station and is set to face charges for murder.

In a separate incident in Dalaguete town, a barangay councilman was arrested after shooting his friend dead in Barangay Lapay, late Thursday night.

Lapay barangay councilman Celso Sacyap, 45, is now behind bars after killing Castro Rendon, 47.

Police said Sacyap and Rendon got into an argument while walking home after attending the graduation party of a friend’s child in Barangay Poblacion. They were both drunk.

At the height of their argument, Rendon, who was armed with a knife, reportedly stabbed the councilman who escaped serious injury and later shot the victim.

Police responded to the area and arrested the suspect who voluntarily surrendered.  (FREEMAN)
