CEBU, Philippines - A huge gathering of Catholics collectively identified as Pro-life advocates in Cebu as part of a national election rally takes place exactly a month before midterm elections.
Pro-Life Cebu chairman Fe Bagarino yesterday announced this at the lay workers gathering centering on election discernment.
The Council of Laity spearheaded the coordinators’ meeting of church workers from around the Archdiocese of Cebu.
The group earlier said they will be releasing their own list of candidates that deserved to be voted and otherwise in the coming May 13 elections, similar to the very controversial “Team Buhay, Team Patay†tarpaulins.
When one of the lay leaders asked why not release the list now rather than prolonging it next month, Bagarino explained that it is not yet the right time.
“We cannot do that now. This has to go through several processes of discussions and discernment. Besides, if we do it now, this might cause negative reactions from our fellow church workers,†she stressed.
She added that the announcement of the list should not be done ahead of the April 13 national Pro-Life rally.
Council of the Laity, together with Human Life International (HLI) and Charismatic movements are all involved in the Red Ribbon Campaign launched last month as a reminder of the importance of life.
Before the Reproductive Health (RH) Law was passed and signed, the color red was strongly used by anti-RH advocates while the color violet was used by its staunch supporters.
The location of the national rally has yet to be revealed. (FREEMAN)
