Six fall in separate police operations

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Six people were arrested by the police in separate anti-drug operations in Cebu City.

The operations also resulted in the seizure of more or less P100,000 worth of shabu. Elements of the Waterfront Police Station swooped down on a suspected drug den operated by Estella Conejos in Barangay San Roque at 10 am yesterday resulting in the arrest of Eric Caña, 19; Dennis Reyes,35; and Michael Pavo, Jr., 27.

The suspects were caught in the act of sniffing shabu. Conejos was also arrested by the police.

The police were on hot pursuit operation against a robbery suspect in Barangay Tinago when they chanced upon the drug session.

The police seized two sachets of shabu and drug sniffing paraphernalia from the suspects.

Chief Insp. Wildemar Tiu, Waterfront Police Station chief, said they received information that Conejos’ house is being used as a drug den. Conejos and the three other suspects denied the charges but the police said, they will be charged for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

On Sunday, a policeman’s son was also arrested in sitio Bato, Barangay Ermita for illegal possession of firearm and packs of shabu.

Roswell Pogoy alias Tawing, 28, was initially reported for bringing a gun. Members of the Carbon Police station responded to the report and found Pogoy with caliber .45 pistol in his waist. He was also found in possession of two packs of shabu.

Chief Insp. Romeo Santander, who heads the City Intelligence Branch of the Cebu City Police Office, said they have gathered information that Pogoy is also engaged in robbery.

He is reportedly the son of a policeman assigned in Lapu-Lapu City.

Pogoy will face criminal complaints for illegal possession of firearm, violation of the Comelec gun ban, and possession of illegal drugs.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Task Group (RAIDSOTG) arrested an 18-year-old man for possession of 30 packs of suspected shabu in Barangay Santa Cruz at 8 pm last Sunday.

Police operatives were conducting anti-illegal gambling operation in the area when they spotted Mark Vergil Amamence acting suspiciously.

Police confronted Amamence and recovered the packs of shabu from his

possession.
