“Police asset” shot dead

Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - An alleged police asset died after two unidentified gunmen shot him in Barangay Basak-San Nicolas last Tuesday afternoon.

The victim, Antonio Delfin, of legal age, died immediately of a gunshot wound in the head.

Delfin was reportedly sitting across his house at past 5 pm when two men on a motorcycle stopped before him and shot him.

The victim was reportedly still seen sitting with his cousins minutes before the shooting happened and the same assailants passed by them.

Residents in the area then heard bursts of gunfire and still saw the two men speeding away from the place. The two men didn’t bother concealing their faces.

The victim was seen sprawled to the ground bloodied and already dead.

SPO4 Alex Dacua of the Homicide Section identified the victim as a former police asset and a brother of a retired policeman.

Dacua said that the attack on the victim was primarily motivated by personal grudges. One possible motive, the police said, may also be illegal drugs. Being a police asset, the victim might have tipped policemen of some illegal drug personalities, Dacua said.

The Homicide Section investigator disclosed that they already have an idea who the suspects are, but they are withholding their identities pending the ongoing investigation.

Barangay Captain George Rama said he advised the victim to stay at their province for a while.

Last month, the victim luckily escaped from two armed men who apparently had ill intentions on him, Rama informed. —/MIT (FREEMAN)
