Eight centenarians to receive P100T

CEBU, Philippines - Eight centenarians in Cebu City, whose ages already reached over 100, will be awarded by the city with P100,000 each aside from a trophy or plaque.

Councilor Lea Ouano-Japson, head of the City Council’s committee on family affairs, said the eight centenarians were supposed to receive their cash awards during the Senior Citizens’ Month last October, but it took time to process their supporting documents.

She said the eight centenarians were individually evaluated by the Cebu City Senior Citizens Council and had passed the qualifications as provided for by City Ordinance 2237.

They are Simeon Suplac, 103, of Talamban; Maria Ochia, 101, Sambag-1; Lucila Yncierto, 101, Lahug; Nasaria Bantilan, 101, Busay; Justina Arenasa, 102, Mabolo; Irene Leyson, 100, Talamban; Conrado Regis, 101, San Nicolas and Teofila Aliño, 100, of Cogon-Pardo.

A few years ago, the city also gave cash awards to Florida Opta, 104, of Lahug and Natividad Sanchez-Go, 103, of Mabolo.

Councilor Edgardo Labella, who authored the ordinance, said there is a rare number of these Senior Citizens who have reached the triple-digit age, that is 100 years and over, and they should be included in a special group of elderly Filipinos. (FREEMAN)
