Sanlakas reveals three endorsed senatoriables

CEBU, Philippines - With 12 senatorial seats to fill in come May 2013 election, the Sanlakas party-list only see three candidates worth endorsing and supporting.

In their provincial congress last Sunday which was attended by more than a thousand members, the Sanlakas party-list Sugbo revealed the list of candidates they will be supporting in the national and local scene.

For senator, Sanlakas Sugbo will be campaigning for former Akbayan party-list Rep. Risa Hontiveros of the Liberal Party, and independent candidates Teddy Casiño and Ricardo Penson.

Aaron Pedrosa, Sanlakas Sugbo vice president-external, explained that the three senatorial candidates are the ones that have the same principles as their group especially in the advocacies being supported like environment, human rights and water and power supply.  Apart from which, Pedrosa said that they base their support on the platform of each candidate and the proven track record.

The list of candidates to support is the same as their counterparts in other regions, said Pedrosa.

Sanlakas Sugbo currently has 5,000 families as members all over the province.

Pedrosa said that they are not worried that the three they have chosen to support are currently not on top of lists of the senatorial surveys.

“That would be the challenge for us,” said Pedrosa adding that their interest is not only to actively campaign for the candidates’ electoral propaganda but to make sure they will win.

“We will do everything we can,” he added.

Pedrosa added that their choice of candidates does not factor in what party he or she belonged to but his or her concrete plans on reform.

He said that they may add more names to the list of candidates to support nationally.During their 4th Regular Congress last Sunday, they also revealed the list of local candidates to support which included congressional candidate for Cebu City south district Aristotle Batuhan, and candidates for city councilor for the south, Hans Abella, Inday Tikay Ylaya and Dave Tumulak, all from the United Nationalist Alliance.

In the north, Sanlakas will be supporting Liberal Party candidates vying for a seat in the city council, namely; Nida Cabrera, Alvin Dizon and Michael Rallota.

In Talisay city, Sanlakas will be endorsing Aldin Diaz, Lee Consol and Bensing Ragindin who are all running for the city council.  They will also be supporting the candidacy of Gina Patalinghug for Sibonga’s municipal council and Mike Enriquez for Danao’s City council.   (FREEMAN)
