Brgy officials from neighboring provinces to learn from Cebu’s best practices

CEBU, Philippines - Barangay officials of the provinces of Iloilo and Negros Occidental are set to learn the best practices of Cebu in the field of investment and disaster preparedness.

Ex-officio Provincial Board Member Jose Ribomapil Holganza, the president of the Liga ng mga Barangay – Cebu chapter, said that he was already informed about the upcoming activities of their counterparts from other provinces.

On February 18 to 20, barangay captains of Negros Occidental will be holding their congress at Crown Regency Hotel and Towers in Cebu City.

With the theme, “LnB Negros Occidental: Handa at Nagkakaisa sa ano mang Sakuna,” the activity will focus on strengthening the disaster risk reduction and management system.

LnB Negros Occidental president George Gitano said that barangays in their province are now vigilant to prepare itself for any disasters that will come again.

On March 3 to 5, LnB of Iloilo will also hold its annual congress at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

With the theme, “Unified LnB Iloilo: Leading the way to an Investor-Friendly Province”, the activity will focus on strengthening the capability of the barangay officials in forging a business and investment friendly Iloilo.

LnB Iloilo president Jeneda Salcedo-Orendain said that the activity is a timely response to the call for economic development through effective and efficient barangay governance with emphasis on the formulation of clear and effective investment plans and programs for every barangay by benchmarking of the excellent and successful practices of other local government units more ideally in Cebu.

The Province of Cebu was awarded last year by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry as business-friendly LGU.

Holganza was invited to render his inspirational message in both occasions.  (FREEMAN)
