CEBU, Philippines - A driver was pinned to death by his vehicle after falling off a ravine yesterday afternoon in Barangay Cogon Cruz, Danao City.

Carlos Malunhao, 42, of Barangay Sabang was declared dead on arrival at the Danao Provincial Hospital.

Police and rescue team pulled him out of the 25-meter deep ravine one hour after his vehicle fell down at 1:13 p.m. while negotiating downhill and trying to maneuver a curve portion of the road.

Malunhao was driving a passenger type Suzuki vehicle loaded with coconut lumber. He was heading home from Barangay Manlayag when the incident happened.

Ildefonso Sellon, 38, of Barangay Poblacion, who was with Malunhao when the accident happened, said that the victim failed to control the vehicle and went straight to the ravine.

Traffic investigator SPO1 Renante Manulat said Malunhao encroached the opposite lane before falling off. There were no metal railings along the road.

“Nakalayat lang ni si Sellon sa pagkahitabo kay nakabantay man siya nga naka-third gear ang sakyanan,” Manulat said in a phone interview. (FREEMAN)
