2 drown in 6 hours

CEBU, Philippines - Within six hours of each other, two died in separate drowning incidents in the town of Argao and Cebu City yesterday.

In the first incident, a 49-year-old farmer who was believed to have been suffering from nervous breakdown was found floating in the seawater of Barangay Taloot, Argao around 6:30 a.m.

Diosdado Mamac of Barangay Bogo was seen by fishermen jumping in the waters and he no longer surfaced.

SPO4 Esteban Albuera, deputy chief of the Argao Police Station, said that Mamac was once bitten by a dog and was taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for treatment.

Mamac was suffering from fever a few days after he was discharged and started to act in a strange manner.

In Cebu City, a 15-year-old boy also drowned after taking a swim with his friends at the seawater near the South Road Properties.

Lee Berniel Nuñez, of McArthur Boulevard, Barangay Tinago, Cebu City, was found floating around 1:30 in the afternoon.

Nuñez was last seen swimming with his friends.

“Naglangoy-langoy ra kuno na unya nagkisi-kisi unya nawagtang, kalit ra kuno kayo,” SPO2 Ruth Violango, homicide investigator, said in a phone interview. (They were just swimming and he was last seen struggling before he disappeared.) —/JPM (FREEMAN)
