CEBU, Philippines - A man riding on a motorcycle shot dead a man who was walking along the road in Barangay Inayagan, Naga City, dawn yesterday.
Angelo Tapdasan, who hails from the nearby town of Minglanilla, died of two gunshot wounds in the body.
Investigation revealed that Tapdasan, whose purpose for going to Naga City was unknown, was walking at the barangay road when the assailant drove near him and shot him repeatedly before speeding away from the place.
Police responded to the crime scene and still saw the victim breathing hard and his body bleeding profusely from gunshot wounds on his chest and left forearm. The victim was rushed to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center here in Cebu City for medical treatment but the doctor pronounced him dead on arrival.
Police found two empty shells of a caliber. 45 pistol and two deformed slugs of the same caliber from the crime scene. Police are still trying to determine the motive behind the attack on the victim by identifying first the victim’s background considering that he lives from another town.
Meanwhile, a man who was allegedly suffering from nervous breakdown died after leaping off a bridge in Tres De Abril St., Barangay Labangon, at 8 am yesterday. Police identified the fatality as Romulo Rejoy, 46, a resident of the said place.
Police investigation revealed that a female neighbor reportedly witnessed Rejoy leap off the bridge and landed head first on the concrete ground some 20 feet below. The victim’s brother, Joselito, reportedly told police that his brother had been suffering from the said illness since 2008.
Joselito believed that financial problems may have also pushed the victim to commit suicide.
Joselito further disclosed that the victim attends to his four children while his wife is in Manila. —MIT (FREEMAN)
