Awards for Police

JPM - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - At the City Hall, the Cebu City Council is expected on Wednesday to commend the two policemen who immobilized Pope.

Councilor Edgardo Labella said PO2 Celso Rivera, Jr. and PO1 Uriel Hagubit’s fast and effective reaction to the shooting prevented further injury or death.

After Pope killed Rafols and Achas, he then shot and injured Casiño and proceeded to the prosecutors’ offices looking for chief prosecutor Nicolas Sellon and assistant prosecutors Oscar Capacio and Nazuren Lorete.

Rivera is assigned with the Cebu City Anti-Drug Special Operations Task Force while Hagubit is with the Regional Public Safety Battalion assigned to secure the Capitol Compound.

Labella explained that the City Council should commend the heroic acts of the two young policemen as one way to encourage other law enforcers to do the same whenever they will meet a similar situation.

Mayor Michael Rama is also in favor that the two policemen would be rewarded for their heroic acts.

The two police officers advised Pope to surrender but instead he aimed his gun at them. This prompted the police to shoot him in the leg. “Having been thus immobilized, Pope then turned his gun on himself and died by his own hand,” Labella said.  (FREEMAN)
