CPDRC remains peaceful despite Byron’s threat

AJ de la Torre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Amid threats of massive jailbreak at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center, Acting Governor Agnes Magpale said that everything is under control.

Magpale, who visited CPDRC yesterday, said that peace and order in the jail remains and its normal operation will go on.

Magpale also assured that she will continue to provide assistance for the needs of the detainees.

Magpale also said that she was able to talk to the detainees and their families and that she was assured of their support.

Magpale is Cebu’s acting governor after Gov. Gwendolyn was suspended for abuse of authority.

Law enforcement agencies were vigilant yesterday as rumors on a riot or jailbreak spread after  Garcia’s brother, Byron informed the media that a possible jailbreak would take place.

Byron, a former consultant who handled the operations of the CPDRC, said that if his elder sister would be taken out of the Capitol by force, a possible jailbreak would happen.

He said that the detainees are furious on reports that the lady governor may be removed by force.

Byron said that he is the “father of the inmates here in Cebu” and that their sympathy is with him.  —/MBG (FREEMAN)
