Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  A teenage girl died after she was hit by a car while crossing the national highway in Barangay Colon, Naga City late Friday night.

Angel Montebon was hit by a black Toyota Hilux driven by Cerenia Bacus, 51, of Barangay Linao, Talisay City.

PO2 Ronjie Nadora of the Naga City Police Station said that Bacus was bound for Talisay City when she accidentally hit Motenbon past 10:00 pm.

Investigation shows that the victim, a resident of the place, suddenly crossed the highway without looking at the approaching vehicle. Bacus tried to apply for breaks but she was too late.

The girl was thrown onto the pavement and hit her head hard on the road. According to the bystanders, the victim quivered before becoming unconscious.

The victim was rushed to the Minglanilla District Hospital but she was declared dead on arrival.

Bacus voluntarily surrendered and is now detained at the Talisay City Police detention cell owing to the lack of detention cell for women in Naga City Police.

The Police are now preparing the criminal complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against the driver. The car is also being impounded at the Naga City Police Station.— FPL (FREEMAN)
